KU Members Cheered For Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
On July 26th, 2024, students and faculty of Kumamoto University (KU) gathered in front of the Monument of Mr. Jigoro Kano, to write down their cheering messages and shout "がんばれ!ニッポン!! (Go! Japan!!)" as a send-off ceremony to wish the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic athletes great success.
The timing of this event coincides with the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games on July 27th at 2:30 a.m. JST, marking the beginning of a vibrant sports festival featuring the world's top athletes. Mr. Jigoro Kano, the third principal of the former Fifth High School (now the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School) that is the predecessor of KU, played a significant role in promoting Judo and Japan's participation in the Olympics. This historical connection inspired the university to organize this meaningful and spirited ceremony.
In honor of Mr. Kano and to wish our Olympic and Paralympic athletes success, a banner was displayed at the University Hall building, and a celebratory board was placed next to the Monument of Mr. Kano.
This spontaneous initiative by KU demonstrates our support for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and our commitment to cherishing the memory of Mr. Jigoro Kano and inheriting his spirit.
