Courtesy Visit by Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Science and Signing of a Double Degree Program Agreement

On April 8, Dr Yingmanee Tragoolpua, Head of the Department of Biology, at the Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University (Thailand), along with others paid a courtesy visit to Kumamoto University (KU) and met with President Hisao Ogawa. The meeting was attended by Executive Vice-President Jun Otani, Vice-President Kazuhito Tomizawa, Vice-President Mitsuyo Kishida and Professor Seiji Okada from the Joint Research Center for Human Retrovirus Infection. KU had previously signed an inter-university exchange agreement with Chiang Mai University in 2018, resulting in active exchanges of researchers and students, particularly in the field of medicine. Notably, the Graduate School of Medical Sciences at KU already had Double Degree Programs with Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences. This visit marked the signing of an additional agreement for a double degree program with Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Science.

During the meeting, President Ogawa expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts, highlighting the significance of extending the Double Degree Program Agreement to include the Faculty of Science, following prior agreements with Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences. He expressed his expectation for the deepening of exchanges to further advance the development of both universities. The participants then engaged in discussions regarding specific plans for future exchanges, building upon the successes of past collaborations.

After the meeting, the Chiang Mai University delegation visited the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, an Important Cultural Property located on KU's Kurokami Campus, which provided an excellent opportunity for the delegation to gain a deeper understanding of KU.
