Rector of University of Mbuji-Mayi (DR Congo) Visit Kumamoto University

On October 25, 2023, Dr. Tumba Disash, the Rector of University of Mbuji-Mayi in Democratic Republic of the Congo, paid a courtesy call to President Hisao Ogawa. Also present were Dr. Jun Otani, Executive Vice President, Dr. Hiroshi Morioka, Dean of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and School of Pharmacy, Mr. Kenji Kakuta, Executive Director of the International Affairs Department, and Dr. Khaled Mohamed Elamin, Assistant Professor of the Global Center for Natural Resources Sciences, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The University of Mbuji-Mayi is a comprehensive university with five faculties, including the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Letters, located in Mbuji-Mayi, the capital of East Kasai Province in the middle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Rector Disashi studied at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of Kumamoto University from 1992 to 1997, and obtained a doctoral degree. This became the connection, Kumamoto University and University of Mbuji-Mayi concluded inter-university exchange agreement in 2015. 

This courtesy call was Rector Dissasi's first visit to his alma mater in eight years, following a visit in 2015. During the courtesy call, Rector Disashi expressed his hopes to build a strong and continuous relationship with Kumamoto University to develop educators and advance medicine and other academic and research in Mbuji-Mayi. President Ogawa also agreed to develop exchange activities between the two universities.
