Announcement regarding damage resulting from the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake

On Friday April 15 after the first earthquake, Kumamoto University published information regarding the disaster situation through the university home page. A month has passed since the earthquake, and as we resume classes and grasp the severity of the damage, the university has organized its initial correspondence and published it on the university home page on Friday May 13.
Hereinafter, updates will be made to the university home page every Monday, with announcements related to new information regarding earthquake damage, etc. based on reports from bi-weekly meetings held by the disaster headquarters.
The latest information include the following.
1. Damage Information
- Regarding the condition of students’ residences (as reported by students)
9 homes completely destroyed, 72 partially destroyed, 1,986 damaged
2. Other
- A field survey necessary for applying for facility recovery costs will be implemented (scheduled for Monday May 16 to Friday June 3)
*The survey will begin in the Honjo campus area, with support from six universities in the Kyushu-Okinawa district (Kyushu University, Saga University, Nagasaki University, University of Miyazaki, Kagoshima University, University of the Ryukyus)
- The sending of medical doctors and nurses to Aso Medical Center is estimated to begin between Wednesday May 18 to Tuesday May 31.
- Kumamoto Revival Projects, which are volunteer activities organized by the university, are introduced on the homepage of Kumamoto University COC (Center of Communities). Please refer to the following URL.
