Message from the President to the Students of Kumamoto University
Regarding the Kumamoto Earthquake Message from the President to the Students of Kumamoto University
The series of devastating earthquakes, which first hit Kumamoto Prefecture on the evening of April 14th, have been part of earthquake swarms, never before experienced by this area. Our university’ symbol, the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, and many other school buildings on the campus have suffered damage. In light of this catastrophic situation, we have to find a new resolve, to meet these obstacles in order to overcome this unimaginable tragedy. We will emerge stronger from our shared difficult experiences.
We are currently confirming the safety of the students and faculty members and will strive to learn the full extent of the damage in order to ensure safety of the campuses. I would like to offer my deepest thanks to the large number of students who have volunteered to support the evacuation shelters and cleaned the offices and laboratories.
We plan to restart the lectures on May 9th and our university staff will make a concerted effort to resume the university activities. Please continue to act with care and keep up to date with developments by regularly consulting the university website. I hope that you will be able to overcome these difficult times you have experienced and that you will emerge from this crisis with a renewed desire towards self-discipline and self-improvement.
