Statement on the Kumamoto Earthquake Message from the President
I wish to express my sincere condolences to the victims of the disaster and my deepest sympathies to those who have been harmed or adversely affected by the devastating earthquakes which first hit our prefecture on the evening of April 14th.
The gymnasiums on North Kurokami campus, Oe campus and Honjo campus, the General Education building, elementary and junior high schools attached to the Faculty of Education have all been established as evacuation centres and are supported by student volunteers.
Though powerful aftershocks continue to rock our region, efforts to learn the full extent of the damage are ongoing in order to ensure the safety of our staff and students. Our attention now turns to recovery; vigorous efforts will go into the repair of our university.
We at the university truly appreciate the generous assistance offered by universities nationwide as well as the support, empathy and encouragement offered from further afield. I would like to extend, on behalf of myself and the rest of the faculty, our humble gratitude for all these efforts.
