Aftershocks of the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake which occurred on Thursday, April 14 are still continuing. When Aftershocks occur, please be aware of the following points.
Prior Confirmation
Confirm the locations of evacuation zones.
When aftershocks happen
Protect yourself first (especially your head) from falling objects.
If using fire, extinguish fires immediately to prevent disaster.
Open doors to ensure an emergency exit.
Do not rush outside in haste.
If in an elevator, press the buttons for all floors, and get off the elevator on the first floor it arrives at. If the elevator stops, ask for help by using the emergency button or phone.
If driving, pull your car to the left side slowly and stop the engine.
When the tremors stop
Unplug appliances and disengage the circuit breaker to prevent short circuits.
Clear any hanging or falling objects.
If there is an injured person, please provide him or her with first aid. Call for help if necessary.
In case of a fire occurring, carry out the following basic firefighting techniques
If a fire occurs, please shout loudly to notify others around the area about the fire. Also, please use the fire alarm.
Do basic firefighting by using a fire bucket, the fire extinguisher, fire hydrant etc.
If the fire has reached the ceiling, evacuate the building immediately.
