Damage Report regarding the Earthquake
Information accurate as of 12.00, April 15th, 2016.
 
  1. Casualties
Two members of staff are currently being treated for minor injuries. The full extent of the injuries caused by the earthquake, including students, is still under investigation.
 
  1. Material damage
The Kumamoto University Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School sustained some damage to the roof and two of the eight chimneys have fallen off. Elsewhere, there has been some slight damage to the walls and some water leaks have been reported. There are no reports of damage to the medical supplies but this is still subject to further enquiry.
 
  1. University Hospital
The university hospital is providing medical care as normal, there has been no interruption to service. The hospital has been treating those injured by the earthquake.
 
  1. Utilities
In Kurokami North and Oe Campus, and Kyomachi Area, the gas supply has been partly interrupted, other interruptions are still currently under investigation.
 
  1. Evacuation Zones
The gymnasium and the athletic field of Kurokami North Campus, and the gymnasium of Oe Campus, have been designated areas for evacuation.
 
Aftershocks are continuing, we are still learning the full extent of the damage caused whilst striving to ensure the security and safety of the staff and students of the university.
