Kumamoto University International Students join the International Students Symposium

On December 5, the International Students Symposium, sponsored by the Kumamoto Student Exchanges Promotion Conference, was held at the Kumamoto City International Center with participation from over 70 people including international students, high school students, and members of the local community.

In the first half of the event, six international students (including two from Kumamoto University) representing Cambodia, Turkey, Taiwan, China, and Korea gave presentations based on this year’s theme: “Let’s talk with international students! ~What it means to be an adult around the world~”.  The contents of the presentations included a brief introduction of each country, and then an overview of the rules, images, and actions that define “adulthood” in those countries.

Next, a panel discussion was held during which the international students and high school students discussed their thoughts and experiences relating to “adulthood” in their own countries.

In the second half of the event, two members of the “Omotenashi Military Commanders” group led participating international students, high school students and local community members in making mochi.  Volunteers from the town Kawachi helped with the mochi-making, and participants enjoyed making strawberry daifuku and eating fresh mochi.
