Scholarships Before Leaving for Japan

You can apply for some scholarships available for international students in your home country before you leave for Japan.

Japanese Government Scholarships

Types:

(A) Embassy Recommendation

Apply through the embassies of the applicants' native coutries

(B) University Recommendation

Apply through the university which has exchange agreements with Kumamoto University

Types of student status and monthly stipend:

Japan-Korea Joint Government Scholarship Program for the Students in Science and Engineering Departments

High school graduates from the Republic of Korea are invited to pursue a four year science degree at a national university in Japan. This scheme is aimed at acquiring most advanced technology and information, as well as promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Korea.
Monthly stipend: 117,000yen

Reservation Program for Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students (JASSO)

Those students who score high marks in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students are eligible to receive a study grant for privately funded international students.
Monthly stipend: 48,000yen
