University of Alberta (Canada) Visits Kumamoto University

On March 27, 2026, Dr. Michael Chae, Director of Enterprise Partnerships, and Ms. Akiko Kosuda, Japan Principal for Business Development, from the University of Alberta, Canada, visited Kumamoto University. They met with Special Assistant to the President Lander Sims, Professor Ikuro Mizumoto of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, and Professor Yukio Sato of the Research and Education Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics (REISI).
 
Kumamoto University and the University of Alberta have had ties for around 50 years. In 2001, the two universities signed an inter-university exchange agreement and have continued to strengthen their ties through short-term programs related to English language and culture, as well as researcher exchange.
 
During the meeting, the participants engaged in active discussions on the potential for future research collaboration. The University of Alberta, which focuses on semiconductor and advanced manufacturing fields and also has a strong interest in industry-academia collaboration, shared its perspectives on possible areas of cooperation with Kumamoto University. The two universities confirmed their intention to further deepen exchanges among researchers and to promote expanded research collaboration.
