Attendance at the 55th Anniversary Ceremony of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan

Executive Vice President Jun Otani and Prof. Hiroshi Cho, Special Assistant to President, attended the 55th anniversary ceremony of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) in Taiwan.
 
Located in Yongkang District, Tainan City, Taiwan, STUST was established in 1969 and is one of the leading universities in Taiwan. STUST and Kumamoto University have a long history of exchange, beginning with the signing of an inter-department exchange agreement in 2004, followed by the signing of an inter-university exchange agreement in 2008.
 
The day before the ceremony, a forum "International Mobility and Talent Development" was held where Executive Vice President Otani, along with partner institutions of STUST, introduced the university's efforts in social contribution. Participants showed great interest in the impact of TMSC's expansion into Kumamoto on the university.
 
A courtesy visit was also made to President Neng-Fu Huang, who had just assumed office in December. Vice President Otani presented a letter from President Ogawa, congratulated him on his appointment, and expressed well-wishes for the 55th anniversary. President Huang expressed gratitude for the long-standing collaboration with Kumamoto University and looked forward to further strengthening ties. With expertise in AI, President Huang is researching smart agriculture through AI applications. During the meeting, he proposed active collaboration on joint research and student exchanges, particularly in areas such as healthcare and disaster prevention, using AI and data science.
 
The ceremony held on December 14 in the music hall, has attended by approximately 300–400 participants, including 30 guests from both domestic and international locations, alumni, faculty, and students. The event was grandly celebrated.
 

This visit provided an excellent opportunity for meaningful exchanges not only with STUST but also with its partner institutions, making it a very fruitful experience. This visit is expended to further promote exchange between the two universities.
