Montana State Government Delegation Visited Kumamoto University

On October 4, 2024, Kumamoto University welcomed a delegation from the Montana State Government led by Mr. Paul Green, Director of the Montana Department of Commerce. He was accompanied by Ms. Katie Wilcockson, also from the Montana Department of Commerce.

During the meeting, Executive Vice President Otani provided an overview of the university’s recent developments and highlighted key initiatives, particularly those related to semiconductors field and collaborative projects with The Mansfield Foundation, which has offices in Washington DC, Tokyo and Missoula, Montana. Both Executive Vice President Otani and Director Green discussed the potential for further collaboration and exchange between Kumamoto University and the state of Montana, concluding the meeting on a positive and cordial note.
Following the discussions, the delegation visited Kumamoto University’s semiconductor research facilities. They had the opportunity to tour the cleanroom and engage in a fruitful exchange with faculty members of the Research and Education Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics.

Montana and Kumamoto Prefecture have maintained a sister-state relationship since 1982, and Kumamoto University has maintained partnerships with the University of Montana and Montana State University since 1987. These collaborations have fostered over 30 years of active exchange. This recent visit is expected to further strengthen and expand these ties in the years to come.
