Engaging Exchange with Delegation from Korea
On July 11th, 2024, Kumamoto University (KU) welcomed a delegation of 29 members from Korea. The delegation, composed of representatives from the government, research institution, and local universities in Gyeongsangbuk-do, engaged in discussions on our university's industry-academia-government collaboration and regional revitalization projects, especially those with TSMC, at 100th Anniversary Hall.During the visit, Executive Vice President Jun Otani provided an overview of KU's history, current initiatives, and collaborative projects. He also discussed KU’s efforts in fostering human resources through partnerships with local governments under the MIRAI SOUZOU JYUKU project. This presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session, where over 20 questions were raised. Topics ranged from collaboration with local community and industry to initiatives in the educational program, specifically in the development of human resources in the field of semiconductors. This discussion significantly deepened the delegation’s understanding of KU.
After the exchange of ideas, the delegation toured several key facilities. They visited the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School and the Chemical Laboratory, both designated as Important Cultural Properties. At these sites, they learned about the historical classrooms, exhibits of the former Fifth High School, the amphitheater used for demonstration experiments, and Japan's oldest fume hood, among other highlights.
