Kumamoto University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (Taiwan) Strengthen Collaboration in Semiconductor Nanotechnology
On June 28, Kumamoto University (KU) signed an Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding with Taiwan's National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) to bolster education and research in semiconductor nanotechnology. The signing ceremony featured addresses from KU's President, Hisao Ogawa, and NYCU's President, Chi-Hung Lin. Following their speeches, Executive Vice-President Jun Otani explained the significance of the addendum before the formal signing took place in the presence of distinguished guests.NYCU is one of Taiwan's leading national universities, renowned for producing top talent in the semiconductor industry. Located at the heart of Taiwan's semiconductor hub, NYCU boasts a dynamic environment of industry-academia collaboration. The university offers cutting-edge research and education opportunities, including internships, guidance from industry-dispatched professors, and advanced research projects with national laboratories.
Similarly, KU, situated in Kumamoto—an active hub for semiconductor companies collaborating with domestic and international universities and corporations, is dedicated to pioneering research and developing leaders in the field of semiconductor nanotechnology.
Already linked by an inter-university Memorandum of Understanding, this addendum aims to leverage the academic strengths of both institutions, particularly in semiconductor nanotechnology. The collaboration will focus on developing joint educational programs and initiatives to cultivate high-level research talent. Additionally, plans are underway to establish a KU lab within NYCU.
After the ceremony, departmental heads and faculty members of KU involved in semiconductor education and research engaged in discussions with the NYCU delegation about specific collaborative projects. Additionally, the NYCU delegation visited the clean room, a state-of-the-art facility representative of semiconductor research.
The signing of this Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding is expected to further enhance educational and research cooperation between the two universities, contributing significantly to the advancement of the semiconductor industry.
