Courtesy Visit by Guangxi Medical University
On May 30th, a delegation led by the Vice President of Guangxi Medical University paid a courtesy visit to Kumamoto University (KU), where they held meeting with Executive Vice-President Jun Otani, Executive Vice-President Kazuhito Tomizawa, and Executive Director Kenji Kakuta. KU had previously signed an inter-department exchange agreement in 2012 and an inter-university exchange agreement in 2018 with Guangxi Medical University, focusing particularly on collaborations in the field of medicine.At the beginning of the meeting, a video showcased the history and development of Guangxi Medical University, highlighting its five affiliated hospitals, advanced medical education system, and its role as a hub for international medical talent development with a proactive approach to recruiting international students. Despite interruptions in international exchanges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, both parties agreed during this meeting to revitalize exchanges in the future. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of Guangxi Medical University, and Vice President Decheng Lu personally handed an invitation letter to President Hisao Ogawa to participate in the 90th anniversary celebration. This opportunity is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the two universities.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, an Important Cultural Property located on Kurokami Campus, deepening their understanding of KU's cultural heritage. Professor Qingjun Wei from Guangxi Medical University, an alumna of KU's Graduate School of Medical Sciences and currently serving as the Vice Dean of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, expressed his profound sense of admiration for the advancements made by his alma mater since obtaining his PhD. He conveyed his eagerness to foster deeper collaboration between the two institutions.
