Courtesy Visit by Consul General of Royal Thai Consulate-General, Fukuoka

On May 23th, Consul General of Thailand in Fukuoka, Mr. Kosol Satithamajit, along with officials from the Consulate-General, visited Kumamoto University (KU) and held a meeting with President Hisao Ogawa. The meeting was attended by Executive Vice-President Jun Otani, as well as Professor Seiji Okada from the Joint Research Center for Human Retrovirus Infection.
 
During the meeting, President Ogawa expressed gratitude for a congratulatory video message sent by Consul General Satithamajit, for the ceremony celebrating the establishment of the Kumamoto University Alumni Association in Thailand, held in March this year at Khon Kaen. Subsequently, an update on the current status of international students from Thailand at KU and the state of research collaboration was provided. Consul General Satithamajit expressed his longstanding interest in Kumamoto Prefecture and gratitude for the extensive history of educational and research cooperation with KU. He indicated a desire to continue existing collaborative relationships while exploring new areas of cooperation.
 
KU has inter-university exchange agreements with nine top universities in Thailand and has concluded inter-department exchange agreements with seven universities. Furthermore, the Graduate School of Medical Sciences has implemented six double degree programs and has been engaged in joint research and student exchanges with Thailand for many years. It was confirmed during the meeting that efforts to strengthen exchanges will continue in the future.
 
After the meeting, the Consul General and his delegation visited the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, an Important Cultural Property located on KU's Kurokami Campus. Additionally, they had discussions with KU's international students from Thailand. This visit provided an excellent opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and foster friendly relations.
