Executive Vice President Otani Courtesy Visit to Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU)

On July 24th, 2023, Executive Vice President Jun Otani paid a courtesy visit to Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan City, Taiwan.

Dr. Otani first visited STUST and had discussions with Vice President Te-Kuang Chou and other university representatives. STUST is a private science and engineering university located in the center of Tainan and is highly reputed by companies as a technical university. STUST and Kumamoto University (KU) signed an inter-university academic exchange agreement in 2008 and have deepened exchanges to date, including the establishment of the KU satellite office on the STUST campus in 2019.

During the meeting, Dr. Otani expressed his gratitude for accepting the visit, reviewed the exchanges between the two universities to date, and introduced new initiatives at KU, including the establishment of Research and Education Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics, as well as the concept of educational program specialized in semiconductors. STUST also introduced their initiatives in the field of semiconductors. Both universities agreed to further deepen cooperation in the future.

In the afternoon, Dr. Otani visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and met with President Meng-Ru Shen and other university representatives. NCKU is a national university representing Taiwan, and in 2019, Center for Micro/Nano Science and Technology (CMNSY) of NCKU and the Magnesium Research Center (MRC) of KU signed an inter-departmental academic exchange agreement.

During the meeting, both sides deepened their understanding of the current status of the partner university, exchanged views on how to promote future exchanges in the field of semiconductors and other areas, and agreed to expedite discussions for the conclusion of an inter-university academic exchange agreement.

It is hoped that this visit will serve as an opportunity to further deepen the collaboration with the partner universities in Taiwan.
