Dr. Toshio Suda, received the 2022 ISEH Outstanding Mentor Award

The ISEH Outstanding Mentor Award is intended for an ISEH member who has demonstrated outstanding scientific mentorship by fostering academic and professional development of trainees and early independent career scientists in the field of experimental hematology.

We are very pleased to announce our inaugural winner, Dr. Toshio Suda. Since he became an Assistant Professor in 1983, Dr. Suda has trained over 100 fellows, many of whom are now professors in academia or leaders in other scientific areas. Throughout his career, he has actively engaged in fostering the next generation researchers. Testimonials from the community speaks to his “unbiased scientific vision which convinced many young researchers to take academic careers“, his “creation of a flourishing research environment” that he “constantly challenged me to perform better, … through positive encouragement and inspiration” and that he “always finds time to discuss the progress of our research”.

Dr. Suda has been an active ISEH member for decades, and also contributed his insights as member of a number of journal editorial boards. Notably, he is the new Editor-in-Chief for our beloved society journal, Experimental Hematology – an indication that he is committed to continued leadership in our community.
