The AY2021 Kumamoto University FD Program for Globalization of Education “How to COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning)”

On March 9th, 2021, Kumamoto University held the AY2021 Kumamoto University FD Program for Globalization of Education “How to COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning)”.

This time, with the novel coronavirus pandemic, in order to share cases widely on online education and new forms of international joint education, two lecturers who have already introduced COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) type classes at Kumamoto University introduced case studies of COIL type education for faculty members of The Consortium Universities in Kumamoto member institutions. In addition to an overview of COIL, the case studies were introduced how to select the application software that takes student personal information into consideration, how to find partner institutions including networking, and examples of actual courses. In the Q & A session that followed, participants asked questions about difficulties in actual COIL classes, and the lecturer introduced their experiences.

In addition, as part of measures against COVID-19, the event was held in a hybrid format of a venue with a limit on the number of participants and Online by ZOOM. A total of 39 people, 32 teachers and 7 others, participated in the event.

I hope that this training will help Kumamoto University and the member institutions of The Consortium Universities in Kumamoto to continue international joint education in the outbreaks of novel coronavirus infections.
